Apple's Vision Pro Faces Production Cut Amid Weak Sales

Image
Apple is planning to cut production of the Vision Pro after weaker-than-expected demand. This is according to a new report from Apple analyst Ming-chi Kuo. Kuo notes that the company is already forecasting lower demand than expected despite the headset not having been released outside the US. According to Kuo, the “market consensus” had dropped the number of Vision Pro sales from 700,000-800,000 to 400,000-450,000 in 2024. Reports suggested that some early buyers were returning their headsets to Apple with some complaining of headaches and motion sickness. Reasons for the decline remain unclear, but some have pointed to a lack of key applications and complaints about pricing and comfort. Despite its initial success and contributions to discussions on augmented and virtual reality, concerns persist. http://dlvr.it/T61V9G

Too many models

How many AI models is too many? It depends on how you look at it… but 10 a week is probably a bit much. POLITICO on Instagram: "Activist groups are using a typical advocacy tool — voicemails to members of Congress — with a new, uncomfortable twist: They’re AI-generated voice memos from victims killed by gun violence. TheShotline.org, a gun reform campaign by March for Our Lives and Change the REF, is asking constituents nationwide to send representatives in their zip code the AI-generated phone calls. The voice memos feature six victims of gun violence, including those killed in mass shootings, suicide and accidents. The advocacy organizations hope the chilling recordings will lead to the passage of federal gun reform, specifically an assault weapons ban. “I want these politicians to sit there and listen,” said Brett Cross, a father of one of the victims featured on Shotline.org, “I want them to imagine that that’s their children’s voices, because they didn’t do anything to prevent countless children being slaughtered.”Florida Democratic Congressman Maxwell Frost, called the AI-generated audio “heartbreaking” and “uncomfortable.” “That’s the point of it. The point is to feel uncomfortable,” he added. Link in bio for the full story on how lawmakers are responding to this use of AI. 🎥 @jackienpadilla / POLITICO"
